"The 7 Habits of Highly Resilient Working Parents"
How to Balance Work and Life in the Down Economy
Dear working parent
As I write this, I’m listening to the headline news on TV, which is;
“Economy is stalling”. Underneath this heading is
gloomy news – house prices are falling again for the first time in a year, the government is planning the biggest spending cuts since the war and retailers are noticing people are becoming more cautious. And news like this in the UK is reflected in so many other countries.

Such an extended down economy breeds fear, and particularly
fear of job loss. Consequently, many people feel that they have to
work harder than ever just to keep afloat.
Of course, we all know the dire consequences of burning the candle at both ends, neglecting our health and working too hard to have any quality time with our family.
Insomnia, anxiety, ill health and divorce are just a handful of these consequences.
Another of the dire consequences that doesn’t get quite so much press is
regret. Regret is a hard lesson to learn; especially when it comes to precious time lost with those we love most. Imagine fast forwarding 20 years, your children are grown up and say to you; “
Dad, you were never around” or
“Mum, you were always so busy”, “you used to lose your temper a lot” or
“You seemed so tired”.
There’s
always an excuse to keep working, to neglect what we know we should do for our health, our sanity, our marriage and our family. But the irony is that it’s those who have a sensible and balanced approach to life and work who will be able to
weather the storm of tough economic times.

The good news is that you can put in place a handful of simple habits and practices in your life that will help you to keep your sense of perspective,
find time for fun and create a fulfilling life.... even when “life ain’t perfect”.
